New Kind Of Landscape, 2018, Los Angeles, CA
2020 Foretold
Recent photos from California, Nevada, Florida, Alabama and Louisiana forecast and document the surprising year of 2020 in America from a personal perspective.
I was struck by the “New Kind of Landscape” image made in Los Angeles on holiday and photographed the glimpse of the Pacific Ocean in San Diego.
“Odd Mask,” the nightclub facade and the fragmented window image were made in Las Vegas. My flooded front yard in Slidell, Louisiana became poetic behind distorted glass post hurricane Barry in "Watery View" while “Mask View” was made after a tropical storm in mid-pandemic May.
I found the nightclub sign in Metairie, Louisiana “Coronapocalypse” proclaiming the reason for closure and photographed the odd weeds and corona design in the sky on July 4, on Dauphin Island in Alabama. Mobile Bay was taken from the highway in Mobile. The image to the left, "Sun Corona and Clouds" was made in Navarre Beach, Florida, as was the lone floater depicted in “Adrift.” “Stairway to Heaven” is from Fort Pickens on Santa Rosa Island in Pensacola.
The tree on the house documents the aftermath of hurricane Zeta in Metairie, LA in October. The home owners who were inside when the tree fell said it sounded like a bomb went off in the next room.
